You read that right, T-Tapp, and it is a form of exercise that was developed by Teresa Tapp. My initial impression was that it looked ridiculous and I thought it had ruined my back, so I rejected it. However, there was something about it that made sense and kept calling me back.

First, I found out about T-Tapp from Mary Shomon an expert on thyroid disorder. She recommended T-Tapp for anyone with autoimmune disorders. Then I bought Teresa Tapp’s book “Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes” which I found interesting but not very helpful. It was filled with testimonials and I just didn’t get much out of that and I found her exercise instruction difficult to follow. Buying the book was not a complete disaster as it provided me with the ability to get one DVD and a sampling of products very reasonably. I chose “Walk Away the Inches” as my DVD and despite my harsh review of her book I do refer to it and have loaned it out to help others learn about T-Tapp form.

The first time or two I followed the exercise on my newly purchased T-Tapp DVD I found myself with serious back problems which I naturally felt the DVD exercise had created, so I set it aside and went back to Kathy Smith. I think having done exercise with Teresa Tapp and her very specific instructions left me feeling something was missing and that coupled with realizing that it was the Kathy Smith DVD that had started my back problems brought me back to the T-Tapp DVD. I was a bit bored by the “Walk Away the Inches”, so I ordered the Total Workout and that brings me to the present state of being totally hooked on T-Tapping.

Teresa Tapp has a rehabilitative approach to fitness, so even with bad knees you can successfully use her DVDs, your weak and achey back will become stronger and hurt less. I cannot speak to losing weight (I do not weigh myself and that is another blog) but I have lost inches and my back fat is all but gone. I was ecstatic yesterday when I looked in the mirror and noticed that the crease in my back that I thought was a permanent feature was disappearing (which is why I thought I had to let you know about T-Tapp). I stand taller and straighter, my shoulders are no longer rounded and my knees feel great. I am excited to purchase her “Breast Health Package” because I feel prevention of breast cancer is the real key not curing it once someone has it. Teresa is donating $10 of each package purchased to the United Breast Cancer Foundation and she has partnered with that foundation to develop programs to help women with breast cancer and to help the rest of us “prevent” breast cancer.

T-Tapp will remind you of yoga, or Qigong as it is very form specific. The exercises are done with no music and I guarantee you will not miss it as her constant reminders are imperative. You will find yourself “tucking butt” and pushing your knees out to little toe every time she says “KLT”. You exercise from the core out and when you are done your muscles are fatigued, your heart is pumping and your lymphatic system has been purged. • An Idea to Warm Up To

My naturopath and I were having a discussion several weeks ago regarding health and healing and I finally asked her to tell me in a nutshell the one thing she would recommend I invest in to optimize my health. She didn’t hesitate one moment and answered “The far-infrared sauna”.

She actually told me about the far-infrared sauna at my first visit and piqued my curiosity but as there was not one available in my area I was unable to pursue it as a healthy addition to my life. I pondered this for several months and looked in to buying one for home use which seemed a good idea but then I came upon an even better idea I would provide a far-infrared sauna to anyone interested in using it as a healing aid or just to maintain their health. This summer I am opening a business in Stillwater, Minnesota that will provide all of the benefits of far-infrared sauna without the investment of money and space to have one at home.

“What is a far-infrared sauna?” you ask. As succinctly as possible I will attempt to answer that question.

According to Sunlight Sauna’s (http://www.sunlightsaunas.com) website “far infrared light(FIR) is part of the sun’s invisible spectrum and since it can’t be seen it is experienced as heat. One of far infrared light’s characteristics is the ability to easily penetrate human tissue. When this happens  it creates a natural resonance, which has many beneficial properties.  Dr. Toshiko Yamazaki, M.D. owns a clinic in japan where she has done extensive research on the therapeutic uses of far-infrared. In her book, “The Science of Far-Infrared Therapies” she explains that one of the reasons FIR has beneficial results in a variety of illnesses is the ability of FIR waves to remove toxins which are often at the core of many health problems.

The far-infrared sauna looks like a traditional sauna and mine is made of basswood to provide the best hypoallergenic properties but in appearance it will be as pleasant as sitting in any sauna. The infrared sauna differs from a traditional sauna in several ways but I feel the primary difference is that far-infrared has healing properties due to its ability to penetrate human tissue more deeply thus exciting existing cellular water molecules, breaking them down and allowing the cells to excrete the toxins that have accumulated. A traditional sauna uses extreme heat(150 degrees+) and humidity to make a person sweat and release some toxins. Far-infrared uses much lower temperatures (110 degrees F-130 F) but more effectively allows the body to release accumulated toxins because it heats from the inside out.

Far-infrared sauna therapy has been studied quite extensively(particularly in Japan where it has been in use for many years) and found to be quite  therapeutic in treating conditions as diverse as artherosclerosis and fibromyalgia. It can be effectively used to help people with debilitating arthritis or who suffer with psoriasis. It aides in weight loss and is equivalent to 30 minutes of aerobic activity (but who wants to sit in a sauna instead of exercise I want to use it in addition not as a substitution for exercise). It helps clarify skin that is troubled by acne and helps build collagen in skin like mine that has lost some of its elasticity. It has been used to detoxify former drug users by L Ron Hubbard and less well known but every bit as important to me it has helped a friend of mine lessen the pain and debilitating affects of an injury to her groin.

Will I be able to make such claims to the people who use my facility? Of course not, there are far too many lawyers out there looking for business and far too many people willing to give them their business. I feel confident however that I have the information to prove that the far-infrared sauna is a great healer and I simply want to provide those who are looking to maximize their potential for good health with the tool to achieve their goal.

If I weren’t going to open a clinic for the far infrared sauna I would consider a portable one that could be put away. At Sunlight Sauna I did feel the portable one was almost as expensive as the one person sauna and the one person sauna looked a little less like a coffin, so would opt for that. For my business I bought a two person sauna which worked quite well for one or two people sitting upright. My Sunlight sauna is better than average and the customer service at SS is fabulous.

I think that is great to have a clinic nearby in which you can enjoy a far infrared sauna. Unfortunately I live in a small town and there is no place that I am aware of that I could go to. A friend of mine has a portable Infrared Sauna and she seems to really like it. I believe she purchased it at http://www.promolife.com/personal-far-infrared-portable-saunas-/cat_112.html
I’m gonna check one out and keep posted how it works for me!

      Cheers
